UnTangled Minds Therapy
Yolanda T. Adkins-Hopkins, LMFT
Founder & Clinical Therapist | UnTangled Minds Therapy, Inc.
I am Yolanda T. Adkins-Hopkins, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in California and the founder of UnTangled Minds Therapy, Inc. I am deeply passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges and move toward healing, clarity, and meaningful change.
Seeing growth and transformation in others is what fuels my work. I believe therapy is not about “fixing” people, but about helping them reconnect with their strengths, values, and sense of purpose. Together, we explore core beliefs, emotional patterns, and life experiences that may be keeping you stuck, while building practical coping skills and healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.
My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, communication difficulties, grief, life transitions, and self-esteem. I strive to provide a supportive, safe, and non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to be their authentic selves.
My personal motto—“Everything I have gone through, I have gotten through”—grounds my work and reminds me that resilience lives within all of us. It shapes my therapeutic approach and reinforces my belief that change is possible, even in the midst of pain or uncertainty.
At UnTangled Minds Therapy, my mission is simple: Be You. Feel Better. Live Simply. I am honored to walk alongside clients as they untangle emotional barriers, strengthen relationships, and create lives that feel more aligned, fulfilling, and intentional.
The Services We Provide
We are now accepting new clients ages 16 and up for individual and family counseling. We support clients with a wide range of therapeutic concerns in a safe, compassionate, and supportive environment. UnTangled Minds Therapy, recognize that healing looks different for everyone.
Create the life you want to live
UnTangled Minds Therapy

Here at UnTangled Minds Therapy we often work using the Method DBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy. This is congruent with CBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with the main difference being DBT trains you to be in the here and the now, to live in the moment. While in therapy you will be taught to utilize these four major DBT principals:
Mindfulness: The ability to stay in the present moment.
Distress Tolerance: The ability to survive crisis without making things worse.
Emotion Regulation: The ability to understand intense feelings change them by learning what you are feeling and labeling it.
Interpersonal Effectiveness- The ability to create healthy relationships and maintain them, and build healthy communication with others.
The Strength Within You
Of course, each session is tailored around your current position in life. By finding the Strength in You, we will be able to discover new ways to deal with everyday life situations. You will start to see that many things that is happening in your life today you have conquered before. We may simple have to go back into our databank and figure out how did we get through this in the past. The longer you live the more you will discover life is just repeating itself. My moto is “Everything I have gone through I have gotten through.”
Many Ask What are Differences from Psychiatrist, a Therapist and a Life Coach
A Psychiatrist handles the medication piece and can be paneled to take insurance. They can prescribe and diagnose. There sessions vary from 15 mins to an hour and they see the patient upon necessity for primarily medication management.
A therapist has extensive clinical training and they have the ability to diagnose mental health conditions as well as treating them. They can be paneled to with insurances so the patient can be treated through their health insurance. They work on healing past and current trauma as well as emotional distressors.
A Life Coach helps to set goal and personal growth. They are not able to treat with patients insurance provider and they are future oriented. They are not so concerned about how you got here but what are we going to do to get you in a better place.
Everything I Have Gone Through I Have Gotten Through
By repeating the phrase Everything I have gone through, I have gotten through helps quiet fear and ground you in truth. Nothing you have faced in your life has stopped you from continuing forward. Your life is proof of your resilience. Fear has not stopped you—loss, heartbreak, uncertainty, and disappointment did not end your story. You are still here, still growing, still capable.
Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes
Imagine knowing that by simply taking one step—placing one foot in front of the other—you move closer to your goals and dreams, and further away from the problems holding you back. Each step forward is progress toward a life worth living.
Because the truth is: Nothing changes if nothing changes.
Just Step.
